Carmen Jones is a longtime resident of Malvern. She isn't afraid to speak out about community concerns and defend the rights of all citizens to have their voices heard. Before entering politics, she taught for many years in the Malvern Public School District and retired a few years ago. Afterwards, she taught as an adjunct college professor at Henderson State University. She holds Christian values and believes that everyone is important no matter their race, income, or background.
I feel that every child has a right to an education. There shouldn't be a shortage of qualified teachers because of low pay. Teachers are in this field of study because of their passion for teaching. They are professionals and need our support.
There are a lot of vacant and dilapidated homes around our neighborhoods. I would like for something to be done about this problem. I feel the owners must take responsibility to make improvements or tear them down. This would help to give our neighborhoods a "face-lift". We want Malvern to be appealing for people looking for a better place to live.
I want us to have better streets. When it rains, it floods so badly that people's lawns are affected. We need better gutters and drainage. Our streets need pavement that will last more than a year. We're all tax payers. Everyone deserves better in our city.
